7th Grade Beta - Beta is a service club where students are invited to attend if they have a GPA of 3.67. To remain in the club, students must maintain this GPA and complete 2 hours of community or school-based service hours. Sponsors: Jordan Bray, Ashley Carter, and Katie Miller Chess - Sims Chess Club members meet several times each month to learn the game, discuss strategies, and play against each other. The emphasis of the club is on learning the fundamental rules, as well as learning good sportsmanship and fair play. Sponsor: Stephanie Rimes First Priority - First Priority is a student-initiated, student-led Christian club that is open to all students who are interested in supporting one another in the Christian faith. Meetings are held each Wednesday from 1:45 – 2:15 in room 202. Sponsor: Joy Tyner Math Club- Sims Math Club meets once a month and is open to all grade levels. The meetings are held to practice competition-style questions in order to get prepared for local and state competitions in the Spring. The goal is to help students begin to see math as fun and not intimidating. Sponsor: Sheri Meadows Patriot Pacers - The Patriot Pacers is an organization that promotes fitness through running. We encourage students to participate in a 8-12 week program that culminates in walking/running. The Patriot Pacers meet Tuesday and Friday morning during the first semester. During the second semester the club meets Tuesday afternoons and Friday mornings. Sponsors: Aaron and Jeannie Runyon Science Olympiad- Science Olympiad is currently preparing to compete in a regional competition held at UWF in February 2017. There are 23 events and we currently have two teams practicing on Wednesdays & Fridays until 3:30 pm. The events are in physics, chemistry, earth space science, biology, and engineering. Students engage in hands-on, interactive, inquiry-based activities that are lab-based, research-based, or prebuilt. Sponsors: Sarah Widener Sims Stars - Sims Stars is an acting club that consists of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. It stands for Sims Students Together Achieving Real Success. We meet weekly and work on skills such as staging, projection, working in a group, improve, and stage presence. We will have a stage performance in the spring. Sponsors: Megan Hansen, Stephanie Rimes and Lauren West Student Government Association (SGA)- The SMS SGA is an organization that serves the entire student body by sponsoring and organizing activities ranging from service projects, to school spirit activities and dances. The SGA consists of 8th grade students who have demonstrated the ability to maintain positive leadership skills. They are responsible for fostering a strong relationship between the students, faculty, and administration and they play a major role in building school spirit. Sponsors: Penny Moore, Gretchen McClain and Lauren West Take a Stand - Take a Stand club is the anti-bullying club at Sims Middle. We meet twice a month, we promote anti-bullying behavior, show videos that foster inclusion and do things throughout the year promoting the values of our club. We do have a t-shirt that club members and teachers enjoy wearing on certain days to promote our motto which this year is #youcansitwithus. All grade levels are welcome and you can joining at any time of the year just by coming and participating at our meetings. We meet in room 404 on Friday mornings, every other week.
